The Laboratory of Embryonic and Genetic Engineering and the Laboratory for Technical Support were established in 2000 as shared facilities within the Institute of Biomedical Research and Technology. In April 2008, they were integrated into the Research Promotion Unit, and in Octover 2023, the Laboratory of Data Analysis and Infrastructure was newly added. Since April 2024, the Research Promotion Unit has been operating as the Laboratory of Embryonic and Genetic Engineering, the Advanced Research Initiative, and Laboratory of Data Analysis and Infrastructure, providing support for research activities.

With Unit Director Kenji Inaba (concurrent post) overseeing the unit, a team of four technical staff and approximately 15 technical assistants provides cutting-edge research support services. These services handle over 2,000 cases annually, supporting not only researchers within the institute and university but also collaborators at Joint Usage/Research Center. In addition, approximately 40 shared research instruments are centrally installed and maintained in the Shared Equipment Room, all managed by the institute.

To ensure that a wide range of researchers can effectively utilize the Laboratory of Embryonic and Genetic Engineering, the Advanced Research Initiative, and the Laboratory of Data Analysis and Infrastructure, we also organize user information sessions and hands-on workshops on shared equipment.
