Prof. Hitoshi Kurumizaka receives the Takeda Prize for Medical Science 2026!

Professor Hitoshi Kurumizaka (Institute for Quantitative Biosciences, The University of Tokyo), a principal investigator in the EPICODE project, has been selected as a recipient of the Takeda Prize for Medical Science 2026.

The prize recognizes researchers who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to medical science in Japan. Professor Kurumizaka is honored for his research elucidating epigenetic regulatory mechanisms through chromatin structural studies and extending these insights to disease research.

By combining chromatin reconstitution techniques with structural biology, Professor Kurumizaka has advanced our understanding of chromatin-mediated regulation, including gene transcription and DNA damage repair. His work provides a foundation for understanding diseases associated with epigenome abnormalities and for drug discovery research.
